One for the Himalayas
One rupee a day. One commitment to the Himalayas.
Across the Eastern Himalayas, communities are already stepping forward to protect their landscapes.
Over the last three years, The Himalayan Fringes Project has worked alongside local communities in Arunachal Pradesh to build community-led waste management systems in some of the most remote regions of the country.
What began in one valley has created momentum across many others.
Today, communities from Daporijo, Jang, Siang, Shergaon, Sinchung and beyond are reaching out to us. They have seen what becomes possible when communities build systems of their own — and are asking how similar models can take root in their regions.
The challenge is no longer proving that the model works.
The challenge now is sustaining the people, partnerships and presence required to carry this work further across the Himalayas.
Over the coming months, our team will travel across the Eastern Himalayas to meet village councils, Self-Help Groups, youth leaders, schools and local administrations. Together, we will help communities design and strengthen and sustain systems for managing waste, protecting landscapes and building long-term local stewardship.
Your contribution does not fund a building.
It does not fund a machine.
It helps fund the people, travel, workshops, community meetings and on-ground work required to carry these ideas from one valley to the next.
Because mountains are not sustained by good intentions alone.
They are sustained by people who travel further, stay longer, listen closely and help communities turn ideas into systems of their own.
This commitment helps make that work possible.
